A Coppermoon for 6 Billion

Don't miss the total lunar eclipse, 7 September 2025, especially if you are in South Asia

Why is the Moon copper-coloured during a total eclipse? Because Earth's atmosphere preferentially scatters away the bluer light: when the Moon is fully in the umbra, it is rendered copper-coloured (image by Prajval Shastri)

What can better bring us all together than the beauty of an enthralling copper-coloured moon in our shared skies?
